Former Sims studio head making a competing game
Paradox has announced a new game called Life By You, which is being developed by Paradox Tectonic and led by former Sims studio head and Second Life studio CEO Rod Humble. This new game is set to be a direct competitor to The Sims, and Paradox gave a glimpse of it during their showcase today.
The short announcement video provided a glimpse of green suburban neighborhoods, house construction, and simulated people engaging in everyday activities such as hugging and microwaving meals. From what was shown, it appears that Life By You is positioning itself as a direct rival to The Sims, complete with North American suburbs.
Although the initial reveal only provides limited information, it’s possible to pick up clues about the building interface and home decor styles by inspecting the frames. The teaser home interior features a subtle ’70s aesthetic. As a fan, I’m hoping that Paradox’s strategy expertise translates to an equally immersive interpersonal simulation, a level of depth that The Sims 4 is only beginning to explore with its upcoming Growing Together expansion.
