Life by You: Less Paid-For Content
Although The Sims franchise has been successful in building upon its base games by adding new features with expansion packs, the number of packs that have been released across each series has become overwhelming. The Sims had a life span of only eight expansion packs, while The Sims 4 currently boasts thirteen expansion packs, twelve game packs, eighteen stuff packs, and nineteen kits. This excessive number of packs requires players to pay an exorbitant amount for basic gameplay mechanics like improved social dynamics, weather, and pets, which should have been included in The Sims 4 base game.
Although pre-order bonuses, such as the ability to use a moped, were advertised at the end of Life By You’s announcement event, it is hoped that future expansions will focus more on aesthetic and cosmetic choices instead of gameplay mechanics that should have been included in the base game or provided through a free patch or update. This is similar to what EA eventually did with toddlers and swimming pools in The Sims 4.
